About the Course:  

The Institute is running POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE COURSE IN COUNSELLING as an independent value added course for its own post graduate students and other students who are graduates since 2018-19. It has faculty teaching family counseling as a subject at the PG level. It also has been engaged in running a family counseling centre as a field action project for well over two decades. This short duration course of five months period is aimed to equip the students with knowledge and skills required for rendering professional services as a counselor, especially in the context of family counseling and child guidance. This vocation oriented course, is meant for any graduate in any discipline. Students who are pursuing any other course or those who are employed as counselors/social workers are eligible to take admission. This course strives to provide value addition especially to the students of social work and psychology.

Objectives:

  1. Provide trained human resource for organizations engaged in rendering various types of counseling services.
  2. Help students to enrich their knowledge and skills to deal more effectively with family related crises being faced by clients.
  3. Enhance the employability of the students of social work by equipping them with counseling skills and skills in rapport building.
  4. Help students understand the official processes involved in running the FCC, the intake procedures, and methods & techniques of record maintenance.

Course Details:

3 Course Duration Five months
4 No. of class days per month 4 days (Total 20 days @ 4 days per month for 5 months)
5 Total hours of theory classes 60 Hours (20 days @ 3 hours per day)
6 Total hours of Field Practicum 40 Hours : (8 days @ 5 hours per day)
7 Total Marks Theory = 400

Field Practicum = 100

Total = 500

8 Course Fee Rs. 1700/- per student. (Registration Fee Rs 100/-)
9 Training system- Theory Theory classes will be held on every Saturday from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm, for duration of twenty days.  Need-based changes may be made in this training system.
10 Training system- Field Practicum Students will be placed in Family Counseling Centres or Women’s Cell at Police Stations/Bharosa Cell of Nagpur City Police for eight days for completing their field practicum of 40 hours.
11 Examination Theory Examinations and Viva Voce will be conducted in summer by Department of Lifelong Learning & Extension of the RTM Nagpur University.
12 Employment Opportunities Jobs may be available in Family Counseling Centers, Women’s Cell at Police Stations etc.

COURSE OUTCOMES

Post Graduate Certificate Course in Counselling will enable the students to:

  1. Understand the perspectives and practices in counselling.
  2. Realise the need of counselling.
  3. Realise new areas and crisis situation which needs counselling.
  4. Focus on various issues involved in counselling.

SPECIFIC COURSE OUTCOMES

  1. Provide trained human resource for organizations engaged in rendering various types of counselling services.
  2. Develop the skills for using techniques of counselling.
  3. Help students to enrich their knowledge and skills to deal more effectively with family related crises being faced by clients.
  4. Enhance the employability of the students of social work by equipping them with counselling skills and skills in rapport building.
  5. Help students understand the official processes involved in running the Family Counselling Centre, the intake procedures, and methods & techniques of record maintenance.

About the Course:

The Institute in partnership with the Alumni Association introduced a Certificate Course in Communicative English in the year 2014 for the students of the Institute with a view to help them improve their English communicative skills.

The course strives to allay the fears associated with English Language and make the students competent in language skills through various exercises and activities. It works towards enabling the students to have that critical edge over others in the competitive world of global industries and organisation.

The classes are held once a week/month. This course is also extended for the students of other Social Work Colleges in Nagpur City.  The Course focuses on four different skills of English Language with special emphasis on communicative skills. Renowned speakers and faculties of other reputed colleges, Institutions and Organisations are invited as Resource Persons.

Workshops and Collaborations:

Various workshops are organised for the students on four different language skills.

The Institute collaborated with the Orange City College of Social Work, Nagpur to organise a One day workshop on Nuances of Report Writing on 26th February 2020

The Institute collaborated with Ambedkar College of Social Work, Nagpur to organise a half-day workshop on Writing Skills on 5th February 2020.

A special session of communicative English was held with Ms. Pamela Castellino, English Teacher (L.S.U. Grammar School at Grays, Essex, U.K. and Brighton Polytechnic, U.K.) & Counsellor.

  1. To develop a fair degree of proficiency in four language skills : 1) Listening 2) Speaking 3) Reading and 4) Writing and its related sub-skills.
  2. To help the learner to improve his/her linguistic skills which will enable him/her to compete in all walks of life.

    • ❒ Ability to read prose, poetry, story, articles etc. with comprehension.
    • ❒ Ability to critically analyse and evaluate the text .

    • ❒ Ability to construct correct grammatical sentences by using appropriate vocabulary.
    • ❒ Ability to draft letters and write other official correspondences.
    • ❒ Ability to argue, defend, explain and express one’s point of view in writing.

The ‘Certificate Course in Research Methodology’ is value added programme for the final year Post Graduate Students from the Institute only.  It is divided into series of around 10 workshops on research methodology in one academic session. It helps students of the final year in planning their research dissertation and planning their career in the field of research.

COURSE OUTCOMES

Certificate Course in Research Methodology will enable the students to:

  1. Enable the students to develop a scientific attitude.
  2. Provide opportunities to develop various research skills.

SPECIFIC COURSE OUTCOMES

  1. Develop in the students a sound understanding of the various aspects / phases of the research process.
  2. Develop an understanding of the use of statistical methods and use of computers in social science research
  3. Enable the students in completing their Ph.D or any other research projects
