Degree Programmes

Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work follows the syllabus and curriculum designed by the Board of studies of the affiliating University Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. Institute prepares its own academic calendar based on the University’s calendar and the institute has well developed structure for effective implementation of the curriculum prescribed by the University through various boards and committees formed at the beginning of the session. Institute develops action plans for the academic year and converts plan into action through various committees/boards like, Board of admissions, Board of Class Directors, Board of Time – Table, Board of Field Work at UG and PG level, Board of Study Tour, Board of Village Camp, Board of Work Load Distribution, Board of Research Resource Centre, Board of Career Guidance and Placement etc. Each programmes or activities are conducted in tune with the Institute’s vision and mission. Programme Outcomes and Course Outcomes are well defined and are mapped to assess the learning by setting attainment targets for students’ performance. Staff Council meetings are conducted at the beginning of the academic session in which Principal prepares academic calendar for the academic session of the Institute in consultation with the teaching faculty members. Concerned subject teachers are asked to prepare teaching schedules of their respective subjects they are going to teach during the session keeping in view, the no. of working days available, the syllabus to be covered so that syllabus can be completed in particular time period. Action plans are discussed in the College Staff Council meetings to arrive at on optimal and effective implementation of the plans. Board of Time –Table prepare time –table before starting the academic session by considering different aspects like availability of permanent teachers, contributory and guest or visiting faculties so that regular attendance of the students in the class is ensured. Each teacher is provided with Attendance register for maintaining attendance of the students and Teacher’s Diary for maintaining the teachers daily work details. Teachers write their daily work they have done in the diary including details of the theory classes engaged, Social Work Practicum related work (record checking, Conferences conducted), Research supervision related work and any other assignments like field action projects, research projects etc. Conduction of minimum one individual and one group conference with the students is compulsory for the teacher to assess progress of the students under their supervision. Attendance of the students in conferences is also maintained by the teachers. Timing of the conferences are communicated to the students and if the students remain absent in conferences or not attend their field work, warning letters are issued to the students by supervisors through Class Directors and the Principal. Institute tries to deliver curriculum effectively by providing necessary facilities in the classrooms required for impactful teaching such as LCD projectors, laptops, desktops, OHP and wall charts so that teachers can practice ICT based teaching. The Librarian of the institute extends his help to the students in their studies by putting extra ordinary efforts.

About the Course

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) programme is of three years duration. The programme is spread over six semesters. The degree of Bachelor of Social Work is equivalent to professional bachelor degree in social work. The BSW programme is aimed to equip students to work as a change agent at grass root level and also contribute up to policy level. It is a recognised qualification for professional positions, in Governmental, industrial and voluntary sector organizations. This degree equips a student with knowledge, skills and attitude required to field of social work. Students passed with higher secondary examination (10+2 pattern), or Certificate course in social work or any other equivalent certificate course are eligible for joining the Course.Medium of instruction shall be Marathi, Hindi or English. PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

Bachelor of Social Work Programme will enable the students to:

  1. Train those candidates/students who are deeply committed to work at the Grass Root level
  2. Provide the youth with a first hand exposure to social issues and development work
  3. Equip the students with a set of educational and administrative skills and tools to analyse the community and the larger society to contribute to its growth and development.
  4. To train dedicated and professionally trained social workers.

SPECIFIC PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

  1. Learn the primary and secondary methods of social work and the fields of social work to help people to help themselves
  2. Impart knowledge on the policies and programmes of NGOs and GOs in the area of poverty alleviation, eradication of illiteracy, healthcare and development of the underprivileged.
  3. Train the students to work with families, communities and organisations for Social Justice, Human Rights and Human Development
  4. Provide first hand exposure to activities and programmes on holistic and sustainable development
  5. This course provides opportunities to be suitably placed in various GOs, NGOs and various social welfare institutions

About the Course

The Master of Social Work (MSW) Programme is of two years duration. The programme is be spread over four semesters. The degree of Master of Social Work is equivalent to a professional Post-Graduate degree in Social Work. The MSW programme is aimed to equip students to work as agents of change from grassroots up to policy levels. It is a recognized qualification for professional positions in governmental, industrial and voluntary sector organizations. This degree equips a student with knowledge, skills and aptitude required to work as Human Resource personnel, Social Welfare Officers, Probation Officers, professionals in the Social Development sector, Rural and Tribal Welfare and Development, Rural and Urban Community Development, organizations for women’s development and empowerment, Counsellors in Family Courts, Correctional Institutions, Youth Development agencies, Geriatric Centres, Medical and Psychiatric Social Workers in Hospitals, officials in Social Defense, Social Work Research, functionaries under the Juvenile Justice System, child rights organizations, ICDS Supervisors, CDPO’s and similar other positions. Post-Graduate degree holders in Social Work are qualified to hold responsible positions in International Organizations like UNO, UNICEF, ILO, and WHO and as Social Work Educators in Universities and Colleges of Social Work. The medium of Instruction shall be English. However, the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur permits students to write examinations in either English or Marathi or Hindi.   2. Orient students to understand the underpinnings of policy formulation, scientific planning, decision making, implementation and evaluation in the areas of Social Welfare and Administration.
  3. Develop knowledge and skills on social research to help the students to analyse social, economic, political and administrative issues and to understand the inherent potentialities of the people and to enable conflict resolution and dynamic development.
  4. Train students to help people in their political participation in democratic decision making
  5. This course provides opportunities to be suitably placed in various GOs and NGOs working in the field of Social Welfare, Planning and Research, Community Development, Medical and Psychiatric settings, Counselling etc.

About the Course

Candidates for admission to the Ph. D. Programme shall have passed Post Graduate Master of Social Work (MSW) Degree examinations of the University or an equivalent Degree with at least 55% marks in, aggregate or its equivalent grade “B” in the UGC -7 point scale. Candidates who have successfully passed the M.Phil. Course programme shall also be eligible for admission to Ph.D. Programme or Has qualified in the two-stage qualifying examination PET-1 and PET-II (M.Phil. or Ph.D. Entrance Test) conducted by the RTM Nagpur University as per the applicable rules in force. The candidate who has been declared successful in the Entrance Test (PET) of the University shall be eligible to submit their application/registration for M.Phil./Ph.D. within a period of 36 months from the date of the result of his/her Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET).
